Don’t have time to deal with all the crap I wrote in “The Super Basic Five Steps You Can Take to Begin to Eat Smarter“?
No problem.
I boiled it down into three handy-dandy guidelines to give anyone a jumpstart on improving their nutrition.
- Eat every 3 hours, no matter what.
- Eat a serving of lean protein and a serving of vegetables at every meal and snack, no matter what.
- Make sure at least 2 of your vegetable servings are green and leafy.
If you follow these three rules and nothing else, I guarantee you that the quality of your diet will improve. You can build from this base in whatever way you’d like – just make sure these three criteria are met. I’m not saying that this is going to get you any sort of specific results, but it will immediately improve your overall diet. Vegetable consumption for most Americans is abysmal at best. Most don’t really even eat *any* and those that do almost never eat enough. The insoluble fiber in leafy greens helps keep the body free of toxins and has been shown to play a hand in preventing cancer.
If starting a nutrition program feels overwhelming and time-consuming, start by making a goal to follow these three guidelines and you’ll be pointing yourself in the right direction.

Interesting post.
I think it would be a bit difficult to have a vegetable and protein serving with every single snack I had though. O_O
A lot of people would think so. But the key is if you can handle the routine of the matter, you’ll eventually love the way you feel from doing this. And that alone, is enough drive to make not so difficult to eat some veggies and protein with every serving. Ever considered a protein shake as a meal replacement with some V8-Splash in it? That’s in easy way to incorporate such things.
yes i agree with you jesse.. when you do anything as the routine, you will find at the end of the day it will be so easy..
BTW 1/2 cup of green veggies is equal 1 portion is equal to 0 calories… unless you + oil or etc only then the calories will increase..
